“The Garden of Forking Paths,” by Jorge Luis Borges

In preparation for the premiere of Roberto Sierra’s new work which takes inspiration from the fiction of Jorge Luis Borges, this workshop will introduce audience members to the wonders of magical realism. We’ll begin by sharing thoughts about what it means to conjure magic into our everyday worlds. What kinds of magic? And to what ends? Then, participants will be given space to create their own fictions, emerging with a poem or story or image that captures the radical power of magic to help all of us understand our true selves better. Participants will have the option of sharing their work with fivebyfive’s October 6 audience.
