fivebyfive at Eastman @ Washington Square Noontime Concerts

Concerts take place every Thursday from late October through May at 12:15pm at the First Universalist Church, corner of South Clinton and Court Streets, ending at approximately 12:45 p.m. The Concerts will also be streamed on the First Universalist’s Facebook Live feed. PROGRAM - 

fivebyfive presents: “From Places Near and Far”

From winter’s blue cold, to Indonesia and Norway, and Iceland to South America, this collection of pieces draws inspiration from places near and far.

1-Awake by Patrick Burke– music inspired by Javanese gamelan

2-Öldurót by Olafur Arnalds, arr. by Eric J. Polenik – music from Iceland, Öldurót is Icelandic for ocean waves

3-Moon Currents by Diego Garcia, arr. by Eric J. Polenik – music inspired by tango

4-Dreams of Glass and Water by Kari Telstad Sundet – music inspired by the soundscapes of the west coast of Norway 

5- Pale as Centuries by Sarah Kirkland Snider- music that conjures winter; inspiration was a stanza of a Nathaniel Bellows poem: “The meadow lost its golden hue/ The trees let go their leaves/ The air grew colder, cleaner, blue/ Pale as centuries.”
