George Eastman Museum, fivebyfive, and Marc Webster explore the intersection of art and music in this virtual program inspired by Eastman Museum’s current exhibition James Welling: Choreograph. The project began when fivebyfive commissioned composers to create new music as a reaction to Welling’s photographs. Through physical distancing, the musicians with audio and video engineer Marc Webster created one-of-a-kind music videos for each piece of music. “It Can’t Not Be Dance Music” is the world premiere of three videos featuring the music of Kay He, Kamala Sankaram and Robert Lydecker, and will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with the musicians, composers, and artist James Welling. The program is generously sponsored by RIT and is supported by New Music USA. This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.
This event is free and open to the general public.
